What Does It Cost to Build a Mobile App in Pakistan?

Ask five Pakistani software houses to quote the same app and you may get numbers ranging from PKR 150,000 to PKR 4 million. That spread is not always dishonesty — it usually means five different interpretations of what you asked for. This article explains what actually drives app cost so you can compare quotes properly.

What you are really paying for

Writing code is roughly half of a project. The rest is work that is invisible in a demo but decides whether the app survives:

  • Discovery and specification — turning "an app like Foodpanda but simpler" into concrete screens and rules.
  • UI/UX design — screen design, flows, and states for loading, empty and error conditions.
  • Backend — database, API, authentication, admin panel. Usually 40–50% of the effort.
  • Third-party integration — payment gateways, SMS, maps, delivery services. Each one adds testing and edge cases.
  • Testing across real devices — a Pakistani user base means low-end Android phones on slow connections, not just the latest iPhone.
  • Store submission — privacy policy, review compliance, listing assets. Rejections cost days.

Realistic ranges by app type

  • Informational or catalogue app (browse content, contact, no accounts): PKR 150,000–400,000.
  • Booking or appointment app (accounts, scheduling, notifications, admin panel): PKR 500,000–1,200,000.
  • E-commerce app (catalogue, cart, payments, orders, delivery status): PKR 900,000–2,500,000.
  • Two-sided marketplace (customers and vendors or riders, live tracking, payouts): PKR 2,000,000 and up.
  • AI-powered app (assistants, document processing, recommendations): add PKR 300,000–1,000,000 over the equivalent standard app, plus per-use model costs.

These are ranges for teams that document, test and hand over source code. Quotes far below them usually mean no design phase, no testing, and no ownership of the code you paid for.

The five factors that move the number most

  1. Number of user roles. Every extra role — customer, vendor, admin, rider — is close to a new app inside the app.
  2. Payments. Local gateway integration, refunds, failed-payment handling and reconciliation are far more work than they appear.
  3. Real-time features. Live tracking and chat change the architecture, not just the screen count.
  4. Design ambition. Custom animation and bespoke components cost several times a clean, standard interface.
  5. Specification clarity. The most expensive projects are the ones where scope is discovered during development. Every mid-build change is paid for twice.

Ongoing costs people forget

  • Hosting and database: PKR 3,000–30,000 per month for typical usage.
  • Apple Developer Program: about USD 99 per year. Google Play: USD 25, one time.
  • SMS, push and email services: usage-based.
  • Maintenance: 15–20% of the build cost per year, mostly for OS and dependency updates you cannot skip.

How to avoid paying twice

  • Pay for a specification phase first. A documented scope with screens costs a fraction of the build and prevents the most expensive mistakes.
  • Insist on owning the code and accounts. Repository access, store accounts and server credentials in your name — not the vendor's.
  • Launch a smaller first version. Ship the core journey, learn from real users, then invest in what they actually use.
  • Ask what happens after launch. A vendor who cannot describe their maintenance arrangement is planning to disappear.

Getting a quote that means something

Before asking for a price, write down: who uses the app, the three actions they must complete, whether money changes hands in-app, what must exist on day one versus later, and your realistic budget range. A serious team will respond with questions, not an instant number.

We build mobile applications from our office in Kohat for clients across Pakistan and abroad — you can see examples in our portfolio. If you want a straight assessment of what your idea should cost, send us the outline; if the honest answer is that you do not need an app yet, we will tell you that too.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a basic mobile app cost in Pakistan?

A genuinely simple app — a handful of screens, no accounts, no payments — typically runs PKR 150,000–400,000. Once you add user accounts, a backend and payments, expect PKR 600,000–1,500,000. Marketplace and multi-role platforms go well beyond that.

Should I build for Android and iOS separately?

For most business apps, no. A cross-platform framework such as Flutter covers both from one codebase at roughly 60% of the cost of two native builds. Separate native apps are worth it mainly for heavy graphics, deep hardware use or demanding performance requirements.

What are the ongoing costs after launch?

Budget for hosting and services, the Apple developer fee (about USD 99 per year), the one-time Google Play fee (USD 25), plus maintenance for OS updates and fixes — commonly 15–20% of the build cost per year.
